The E36 M3 was introduced at the end of 1992. It came available in 1993. This model had a six cylinder engine with 286 HP. It had a top speed of 250 km/h. In 1994 the M3 convertible and sedan came available. In 1995 the M3 received a small face lift and a new engine. The orange indicators were replaced by clear ones and a six speed gear box was standard now. The new engine now had 321 HP.
The sedan went out of production in 1997. The coupe and convertible were available until 1999. A new E46 M3 will be available in 2000.
BMW E28 M5
In 1985 BMW introduced their first M5. This model was based on the E28 5 series. It had a six cylinder engine with 286 HP and a top speed of 245 km/h. There were only 2145 made until 1988 when it went out of production.
BMW E34 M5
The E34 M5 was introduced at the end of 1989. It was available as 4 door sedan. It had a six cylinder engine wich had 315 HP and a top speed of 250 km/h. In 1992 the M5 received a new engine with 340 HP. In 1993 the M5 touring came available. This was the first M touring BMW ever made. It had the same engine as the sedan so 340 HP and a top speed of 250 km/h. In 1995 the M5 received a small face lift. The M5 sedan and touring went out of production at the end of 1995.
BMW M5 E39
The E39 M5 was introduced in 1998. It is available as 4 door sedan.
It has an eight cylinder engine with 400 HP and a top speed of 250 km/h.
It went out of production in 2003, to make room for the all new E60 M5!
BMW M5 E60
The E60 M5 was introduced in 2004 as concept car but came available in 2005. It has a very impressive V10 engine with well over 500 HP! It comes standard with the SMG gearbox and even launch control. If you want to know about bmw m performance, check out here
